Our Curriculum

Leading and Monitoring Subjects at St John the Baptist

At St John the Baptist, we believe that every teacher plays a vital role in leading and improving our curriculum. As a small and close-knit school, we work collaboratively to ensure that every subject is valued and delivered to the highest standard.

A Shared Responsibility

All teachers are responsible for monitoring and developing every subject across the school. We regularly meet as a teaching team to review planning, evaluate learning outcomes, and discuss new ideas. This shared approach means that every teacher has a strong understanding of what is happening across all subjects and year groups.

Team Collaboration

Through our regular team meetings, we:

  • Review the progress and quality of each subject.

  • Share good practice and teaching ideas.

  • Identify areas for improvement.

  • Celebrate the successes of our children’s learning.

This collaborative model ensures that our curriculum remains engaging, consistent, and relevant for all pupils.

Subject Champions

In addition to our shared leadership, we have Subject Champions — teachers who have a particular passion for a specific area of the curriculum.
Our Subject Champions take the lead in inspiring pupils and staff, organising whole-school projects, event days, and even community or out-of-school activities linked to their subject.

Subject Champions help bring learning to life and encourage a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom.

Core Subject Leaders

Some subjects require a more specialised focus and detailed monitoring. Our core subjects — Maths, English, Religious Education (RE), and Physical Education (PE) — each have a dedicated subject leader who oversees planning, assessment, and standards across the school.

These leaders ensure that progress in core learning areas remains strong and that all pupils are supported to reach their full potential.
